Caring in the Community

An important ministry in the Parish of Swithun’s is the outreach into our community, visiting our care and nursing homes as well as those who are housebound.

Each month a team visits each of the four care homes in our parish to worship and offer personal support and companionship. It is always a privilege to be alongside not just the residents in the homes, but also their loved ones and the care staff too.

The familiarity of the liturgy, the hymns we sing and the prayers we offer provide a lot of comfort to all those who are no longer able to engage in the communities that they once knew and loved. In the letter to the Corinthians we are reminded :

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body”

Being in our community brings us together as one body, a family united by our faith in Christ.
