Group of elderly women and two younger adults standing outside St Luke's Church, smiling. There is a signboard in front welcoming visitors for Sunday service. The church building is made of red brick with black-framed windows and doors. The setting appears to be in a residential area with a grassy and paved area.

Our Service

We celebrate a Communion Service every Saturday at 10.00am followed by a time of coffee and fellowship. We also meet together as a community during the week with a ‘Women’s Group’.

History

The original church was built in 1954 in a then newly developed district of the town and incorporated a hall and an adjacent clergy house.  It was a chapelry of St Swithun’s and was built of brown and yellow brick, with a glazed south wall.  The other side had smaller windows and the east and west walls were blank, the large cross of tile on the latter making the purpose of the building clear.

In 2014 a flat block with a modern community hall was build on the site of old church and vicarage.
